At the border of the Magellan Strait, at 3090 km South from Santiago on the Brunswick peninsula, is located the southern most city in continental America. Punta Arenas used to be a wealthy and cosmopolitan city and a great commercial port until the Panama Canal was open in 1913. |

Punta Arenas is the capital of the Magallanes region. With some 120,000 inhabitants this city hosts important economic activities, is a major marine center and supply base for ships crossing the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and for Antarctic expeditions.
The Magallanes region is also known for its natural reservoirs and National parks, such as “Torres del Paine”, declared a world biosphere area in 1978.
This park, named after the three spectacular granite peaks located at the heart of the Paine range, offers an astounding spectacle of lakes, lagoons, snow capped mountains, and a great diversity of endemic animals and birds.

Magallanes also offers us sites of great interest, patagonics prehistoric vestiges that date from 12,000 years ago, places like the Cave of the Milodón, the one is located closely together of Puerto Natales, colorful city that welcomes offering its services to the visitors of the park Torres del Paine, and is port of embarkation for those who want to enjoy the navigation through fiords and channels, for admire forests, cascades and glaciers.
For those wishing to sail along the waters of the Magellan Strait, to visit the mythic “Tierra del Fuego”, or pass trough the Beagle channel to reach the remote Cape Horn, modern cruise ships carry out regular excursions.
